One of the most common questions people tend to ask is about the “will of God.” We just want a greater understanding of what God wants us to do next, whether it’s our next job, our next decision, or our next goal.
Even Paul wrote and reminded the believer at Colossae, “We have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding…” (Colossians 1:9)
We can talk about the influence of prayer, circumstances, and the counsel of others in all of this, as well as reading the Bible.
But what about a conversation, or several of them?
For instance, the Pittsburgh Steelers just lost their first playoff game, which means their season is over. After the game, Arraon Rodgers, their 42-year-old quarterback, was asked about his future plans. And he mentioned having some conversations to help him make that decision.
I recently had a simple conversation make an impact in my life. I’m always working through a book of the Bible in the original text, whether it’s Hebrew in the Old Testament or Greek in the New Testament.
During a recent conversation in a group of Christian guys, I mentioned that several books were on my “next” list. And the book of Daniel was in that list. Then one of the guys mentioned that much of that book is written in Aramaic.
Now I realize that can be very subjective, but his comment led me to finalize my decision. Daniel will be my next book. I’ll be able to work on Hebrew & Aramaic simultaneously, not to mention it is my favorite book in the Old Testament.
Often we are thinking, “What’s next?”. As we search for that answer, don’t underestimate the importance of some simple conversations with godly people in our lives.
